Creating silicone adult toys usually involves these steps:

Design: Begin with the aid of conceptualizing and designing the silicone toy. Most ideas are drawn from recognised fantasies such as mystical creatures, animal appendages or parts of the human body. There are thousands of different possibilities, although many manufacturers will have their own take on the same idea - such as Unicorn horns, human arm or hand etc - there are still many more ideas and fantasies yet to be explored. Many users will have their favourite manufacturer and will want their fantasies materialised by them. Different manufacturers will use different methods, different grades of silicone and different colours - the importance is that customers have choice and can have their desires fulfilled by the manufacturer of their choice.

Mould Making: Create a mould so that it will be used to form the silicone toy. At John Thomas Toys - we ONLY use copper moulds - these provide a consistent texture every time and the highest quality of detail possible.

Design and create the pattern

• Design the object you want to cast. You can use CAD software or sketch it by hand.

• Create a physical pattern of your object from a material like wood or wax. The pattern should be slightly larger than the final product to account for metal shrinkage.

• Ensure the pattern has the desired texture for finish - remember this will be entering the body.

Make the mould

• Usually a wooden box will be used, filled with moulding sand.

• Melted copper is then poured around the pattern (which should have an air draft for removal).

• The mould will have a test run ensuring it fits the exact requirements. 

Mould Preparation: Once the mould is made, prepare it for casting. All our dildos are created in the strictest of sterile environments. Moulds are cleaned and prepared for use.

Silicone Mixing: Select a suitable silicone material for the toy, taking into consideration its firmness, flexibility, and protection for intimate use. At John Thomas Toys, all our dildos are made from body safe, medical grade platinum silicone - the highest quality available. We offer 3 different firmness's (or Shore Rating) which are determined by additives at time of mixing - Super Soft, Soft and Medium. The firmness may differ from product to product even if they have the same Shore Rating - this is due to the size of product - more silicone makes it a little firmer so thicker products will feel firmer. The colour can be anything with silicone, with all Pantone colours, metallics etc available, at John Thomas we are always creating new mixes and ideas to give our customers choice and unique products.

Pouring: Pour the combined silicone into the readied mould taking caution to avoid introducing air bubbles during the pouring process as this will render the product unusable. Depending on the desired colour outcome, different methods can be used; pouring colours together, in succession or even coating the edge of the mould with one colour before filling with a different core colour. At John Thomas Toys we are always experimenting and trying new effects.

Curing: Allow the silicone to cure - this will involve it being vacuumised before and after pouring into the mould and then put in the oven, then left to set for an hour. All our products are individually hand created WITH GREAT CARE. Our X Large products sometimes take THREE men to remove from the mould simply due to the weight and complexity of design - to ensure they are caused no damage.

Finishing Touches: They are first quality checked using cornflour which will identify any issues during setting. Trim any extra silicone off the end and final clean.

Packaging: Once the toy has passed quality control, packaging is important to keep the finished product in pristine condition ready for use. At John Thomas Toys we shrink wrap and store individually with great care.
